Make your own Biodiesel at home
you need
Vegetable Oil- new or used- 1 liter
Na-OH,-6g.
Methanol (at least 250ml)buy from Motor supply shops
equipment needed
1 or 2 liter Plastic Bottle – for use an empty Vegetable oil container
one measuring cup
one scale
OR
one teaspoon
one container to mix the methanol and Na-OH Not- Heavy duty glass is recommended
one Funnel
heating cooking oil
Heating you wastage visitable oil
If you are using waste oil, take one liter and heat to at least 120 degree c to remove all water.
MAKING THE METH OXIDE
WARNING Making Meth oxide is dangerous. Meth oxide is highly toxic.
need 250ml of Methanol and add 4g Na-OH.
If you are using Waste Vegetable Oil just use 6g- 7g Na-OH
Methanol and Na-OH do not easily mix to each other.Start with the methanol at home temp. NOTE when you mix the two chemicals the temperature will increase. You will need to ensure all the Na-OH is dissolved in the Methanol,it's take over ten minutes.
After ALL the Na-OH has dissolved you may need to top up with fresh methanol as the process may cause some evaporation
MAKING THE BIODIESEL…
When the Oil’s temperature has dropped to 60 deg c or less, used your funnel, put the liter of oil into your dry plastic container. Take your Na-OH and add oil. remember: the container is sealed perfectly then shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
You will see that after about 10 minutes the soap will create from your mixture. It will take one day or two day for the Biodiesel to completely separated. You will see two layers –Biodiesel and glycerine.
Next remove the Biodiesel from the container leaving the soap and you are ready for the washing…

WASHING YOUR BIODIESEL
Although the soap and water has separated from your Biodiesel – it need washing. Please do not violently shake your unwashed Biodiesel as it will form an emulsion that may take days or even weeks to fully separate. The gentle approach is whats needed.
Wash One:
Pour 1 liter biodiesel into a a clean and dry plastic bottle.
Gently pour in 500ml water (room temp).
Replace bottle top.
Now GENTLY rotate the bottle end for end for 30 seconds.
After 30 seconds place bottle upright.
Only If you have been GENTLE the water and Biodiesel will separate immediately.
You will notice the water is not clear.
Remove top and using your thumb as a stopper, turn bottle upside down and drain the water using your thumb as a valve.
You have finished wash one.
Wash Two:
Pour in another 500ml water and repeat wash one, except rotate GENTLY for 1 minute.
Drain as fallow wash one.
You have finished wash 2.
Wash Three:
Again pour in another 500ml water and GENTLY GENTLY GENTLY shake bottle for a minute or so.
When water and biodiesel separate discard water in same fashion as before.
Wash Four:
other 500ml water and a bit more agitation for about 1 min.next separation of water and biodiesel Drain as above.
Wash Five:
now be able shake fairly vigorously.
If washing has been completed successfully the water should be almost clear. Be aware that in your later washes you should be able to shake mire violently although it will take considerably longer to separate because the water forms tiny bibles in the biodiesel that take time to settle out.
Your washed biodiesel will be VERY CLOUDY and much lighter in co-lour than the unwashed biodiesel a. After a day or 2 settling and drying it will clear
Drying your Biodiesel
must remove all that water from your biodiesel before using it in a diesel engine or risk damaging the engine.
by this method the water settles to the bottom of the tank or container over time and can be sucked out using a small pump or symphony. For small batches it can take up to a day for the water and biodiesel to completely separate.
Over time the water will evaporate out of the biodiesel however if let in a muggy or wet environment this may not be suitable.
water has all be removed you Biodiesel is now ready for use! Enjoy!
